There are other terrific places on the web to learn more about compassion, as well as the principles of respect, empathy, and kindness. Here are the ones we know about:
Greater Good – This wonderful site powered by UC Berkeley offers lots of insight into empathy and compassion.
The Compassionate Mind – An overview of the benefits of compassion by the Association for Psychological Science, including a section on why compassion really does have the ability to change the world.
Kindness, Compassion, and Meditation – The EOC Institute (Notice: this is also a sales website, but you don’t have to buy anything to read the articles) has a nice write-up about the benefits of mediation and how it can help to make us kinder and more compassionate – and how being kinder and more compassionate can make us happier!
Empathy Basics – From Psychology Today. The basics of empathy and what it can do for you.
Empathy, Compassion, and Kindness in Kids – This is a terrific blog post about how parents can encourage traits like empathy, compassion, and kindness in our children (hint: you have to be these things yourself).
